The First Temptation
From the series Guilty Pleasures
There is a certain innocence in wanting something. The trouble, I suppose, begins when we reach for it.
A little salt, a little heat, something slippery against the tongue. A martini, naturally, to wash it down. I have always found desire to be a rather persuasive thing, and restraint an admirable quality in other people.
But perhaps there’s something to be said for leaving a little to the imagination. For allowing a pleasure to remain a possibility, rather than a memory… then again, what a terrible waste of a perfectly good oyster.
